After finishing the initial excavation it was time to start digging to create the trench for the foundation footing. We had to dig down far enough to hit rock, which turned out to be not as far in some places as others. This created a problem because the backhoe we had rented turned out to be not as powerful as the rock was. Brett finally got it all done, though (with the help of some professional excavators).
We tried to keep as many trees as possible, but some just had to go.
We hope to be able to use the trees we felled in the cabin construction.
