Camp life

While building the cabin, we needed a place to stay, so we created a luxurious (well, considering it was camping), spread-out camp.  There was electricity and running water (we even had a sink).  There was a community tent where we cooked, huddled when it rained, and huddled and watched movies at night.  The community tent didn't have a floor, but the floor stayed pretty dry in the middle of the tent anyway.  It wasn't warm, but at least it kept the wind off.  We had a couple of picnic tables so it made it easy to eat al fresco (weather permitting).  We had several tarps also to keep the rain off if necessary.  Family living in the area came and visited with us several times during the summer.

We also had several tents for sleeping.  Adrien was in the evil pop-up tent, and Conor had his own tent also.
Don & I had a tent up on the hill above the homesite.  It was a LONG way back down to the porta-potty!
Linda & Brett had a tent near the community tent.  It was MOSTLY dry, at least when it wasn't raining.
Adrien catching a few rays on a lunch break.

The gang kicking back and relaxing after a hard day's work.  Linda & Don like to read; Adrien was working on her computer.
It was nice to be able to sit around camp in the evening and read or watch movies, but it's definitely not the same as at home.  At night it gets pretty cold in the mountains, and it just seems odd to be reading wearing a sleeping bag, a hat and gloves!

Conor's tent leaked like a sieve so he put a tarp over it.  That solved the problem, kind of.

And of course, the porta-potty.  It even came with its own sink and dumpster.  We couldn't put any food in the dumpster, though, because of the bears.  At first we tried putting food trash in the dumpster, but then one morning Conor heard a noise, looked out of his tent, and there was a large brown bear getting into the dumpster.  Conor decided the best course of action was to go back to bed.  Somebody hauled trash to the bear-proof dumpsters every night after that.  And after founding out that bears were around, I kept hearing noises outside the tent, but I never saw anything!

  1. The best was watching "Whip It" huddled around the computer, wearing coats, hats, gloves and Brett even had on the crocheted nose-warmer that Adrien made for him.

  2. If Adrien had made nose warmers for everyone, that would have been the best! Good times!
