Building the house part 3

Don and I took a quick trip to the cabin over a weekend in October to see how things were progressing.  It was really exciting!  The work crew had several (friendly) dogs, and they had to come make sure we were okay.

The sub-roof is on and you can see the gaps where the windows and doors will be.  We'll be adding more dirt in several levels, plus we plan to rock the basement walls.  There will be a staircase on this side of the house leading up to a mudroom entrance.
It was really windy the day we were there.  The workers were trying to put a waterproof film over the subroof, but it was so windy, it was hard to get it to lay down long enough to stick.

Every time the wind would gust, the film would try to blow off the roof, and there was a bit of bad language (hard to believe, I know!).  Then they had to apologize to me, since of course I had never heard that kind of language before! :)
The crew was very conscientious about putting a protective layer of plywood over the deck and the stair case, since we will be staining and finishing these and we don't want to get them messed up before we can finish them.

They are handcrafting the decorative truss that goes over the entrance to the garage.   It's amazing what you can do with a chainsaw!

Here I am looking out from the second floor office windows.

While we were there the cement truck came and poured the floor for the basement/garage.

 Messy work!

This is where they will pour a footing for the base of the staircase going up to the mud room.

Looking toward the loft/office area on the second floor.  The room on the right will be a bathroom, and there is also a closet area behind the bathroom.

This is looking down into the living area from the loft.

This is the second floor bunk bedroom.

This area will be our bedroom!

Well, they got the film over the porch at least.  They'll be back later to finish up.

Working on the other side of the roof also.  They had some kind of big crane-like toy they used for everything.  It wasn't really a crane, but I don't know what it is actually called.

The crew was staying in a 5th-wheel trailer at the site.  They were getting ready to pack up camp and the support on one side keeping the trailer level gave way.  The crane came in handy to pick up the trailer too.  It's been my experience that camping is always exciting, you can never predict what crazy thing might go wrong!  But I guess that's pretty much true of life in general also.  (Fran's little moment of philosophy!)

The basement floor turned out nice!  Don had planned on putting the trim on the sides of the garage door opening so that the door could be installed, but unfortunately we came right when they were pouring the slab, so we couldn't really get to that area.

The aspens were beautiful, they were pretty much at their peak of fall color.

A view down our driveway.  I do love aspens!

This is the view we saw driving up the valley on the highway, our house peeking through the trees!
