Second pour, July 27, 2010

What a beautiful day to pour a concrete basement!  The pumper truck is here, the concrete truck is here, we're all ready to go.  A really exciting day.  Unfortunately we are a bit short-handed.  Linda, Don and I couldn't be here for the second pour, so it's just Brett, Mark, Adrien and Conor doing all the work today.  The rest of us were at home thinking positive thoughts and biting our fingernails!
Gotta make sure the truck is well braced.  Don't want any unpleasant surprises, like slipping down the cliff.  That would be bad.  Very bad.

Most of the utilities in the area are underground, although there is a power line easement at the back of the property, but there is still plenty of room to move around.  The long arm of the pumper truck allows us to get concrete all the way around the four walls of the foundation without having to move the truck.

For what it cost us to rent the pumper truck, we had to take a LOT of pictures!

This time it looks like we'll be able to get the pillars poured with no problems (fingers crossed).  It really helps having the boom with a hose on the end to get the concrete down to the bottom of the cardboard form.

 Adrien says it's a go!

We weren't smiling the last time we tried this.  Mark's safety tip:  always wear protective glasses when you're involved in pouring concrete.  Conor can testify to that!

It tried to blow out in a few places, but the bracing held, thank goodness.
 Almost done.

 Done!  The trowelers' high five!
