Foundation part 5

Once the footing trench was dug, it was time to start making the forms for the foundation footer.  Sometimes the rain made the trench a muddy swimming pool.  The red clay soil sticks to everything when it gets wet and stains everything it touches.  When the weather was bad we just gave up on changing into clean clothes, better to just keep wearing the dirty ones.

Brett, my brother-in-law, served as the job superintendent.  In real life he works as a counselor for a school district, which means he gets a good part of the summer off.  That allowed him to be able to stay in Cuchara and do the lion's share of the work!
